One Crayon Challenge - The Reveal!

Sally Russick, the fabulous lady from the Studio Sublime is hosting the One Crayon Challenge - the idea is that each participant chooses a color from the original Crayola box and creates a piece with ONLY the shades and hues of that color.

I chose red, mainly because I'd just gotten this fabulous red lampwork disc and wanted to do something to feature it.

And as if working within one color wasn't challenge enough, I decided only to use things in my stash.  That's right, friends, no shopping after choosing the color.  (Insert horrified scream of disbelief here)

I wanted to echo the swirl of the focal disc in the rest of the piece.  So here, in honor of both the challenge, and because the Kentucky Derby is happening about three miles from my house today, here is The Run For The Roses:

Thanks for looking!  Go check out the others who've been playing with crayons:

Smiling....what a fitting piece... the run for the roses. Love the idea of making yourself use what you had too. Beadwork has been catching my eye of late and your piece makes it more so. Beautiful necklace.

So I see a tranquility garden (you know with the sand perfectly patterned), but in red. You've got calm & intense together. It's great!

Gasp! That's an amazing piece! Love the discs, love the color, love the idea behind your design!!!

The discs actually remind me, not only of roses, but also of the lovely hats the women wear.

Oh, wow - such a gorgeous necklace! I would have never thought to bead-weave the lampworke beads in... the result is truly stunning. Thanks for sharing!

Oh yes! If I had that red bead, I'd have wanted to use it as well! Your necklace (and its Derby tie-in theme) are really great! Wonderful, wonderful job.

Wow! That is a very beautiful necklace - I love it! I really like the humor in your post (using only your bead stash - horrified screams of disbelief - lol).

What a great necklace! I am in awe of you seed beaders out there. The things you can do with them. So far I am getting pretty good at stringing them on string, but this piece is gorgeous. Great job.

Wow Bobbie,
Your necklace is gorgeous! I love your focal piece that red disk is awesome and I like what you did with the others to compliment the focal. To me they remind me of straw hats. I'm sure there will be lots of those worn today!

Oh, fun, fun, fun! Such a bright and cheery piece. I'm in awe at everyone who actually uses those tiny little seed beads to weave,..amazing. I didn't let myself buy anything new either - it's fun using what you already have and makes it even more of a challenge that way. I love your necklace!!

Hello:-)
Possibly, the use of only two colors,or monochromatic ones seems to be boring,or even difficult, but look here, how perfectly You have been able to operate with them:-)
Very interesting interpretation of the color challenge.

Awesome job, Bobbie! I love how you tied the necklace not just into the challenge, but the Derby.

It reminds me of the time Mr. Sequin and I went to a friend's Derby Party a few years ago. Floppy, flowery hats were provided for the occasion... and somewhere, someone has a photo of Mr. Sequin in a velvet hat. Perfect blackmail, right? ;)

What a very fun design with all the beadwork! And that was quite the challenge (and I don't mean the color red...but NOT purchasing anything new for it) lol!
SUPER job!
