Soup's On! - My Bead Soup Blog Hop Reveal

Hungry for more bead soup eye candy? Bleary eyed yet from going through 350+ posts? Ain't it great?

I was paired with Cindy Cima Edwards, and she sent me a great mix of green gemstones, glass, crystal and brass. You can see why I did a happy dance on my front porch when these arrived, no?

Moss agate, Russian serpentine, green aventurine, sesame jasper, Swarovski crystal, Czech glass, cat's eye, Vintaj brass

And from that wonderful mix, I cooked up not one, not two, but THREE portions of beady yumminess!

(1) The filigree and chain were where I knew my challenge would be, as those aren't compents I use a lot in my work. But I had some sesame jasper beads in my stash to match the focal, and when I noticed little flecks of mauve in the jasper, freshwater pearls I'd been hoarding seemed perfect. I went asymmetrical with the triple strands (which could still use a little post-hop tweaking, but hey, time was ticking!), and voila:

From the soup: sesame jasper focal, green aventurine, Vintaj bead caps, chain, flower filigree, clasp
From my stash: sesame jasper beads, Czech firepolished glass, freshwater pearls, oval brass filigree

(2) Then, since my real passion is beadweaving, I wanted to do something in that vein. The dark green moss agate beads were a perfect match for a bead embroidered pendant I'd made a few months ago that I'd just been hanging on a neckwire. And since flat spiral was on my to-do list, this was a perfect opportunity!  The pendant slides on the necklace (a little to the left in the bottom picture, but I'm a little askew myself, so...)

From the soup: Moss agate rounds
From my stash: bead embroidered pendant, glass seed beads, my own fabricated clasp

(3) And then, to use as much of the soup as I could before time ran out, I made a fun pair of mismatched earrings (even though in the photo, they look like they're sized for an elephant!).  You can really see the mauve flecks in the sesame jasper in these pictures.

From the soup: Vintage brass bead caps, bead , jumprings, charm; green aventurine
From my stash: sesame jasper, brass earwires and headpins
This was my first time in the BSBH, and it's been a blast! Thanks for visiting -- I hope you'll follow my blog (the "follow" button is on the left of this page under the post archive if the  link here doesn't work), leave a comment, and/or like me on Facebook and we can get to know each other better!

Now go grab a mug or glass of your favorite beverage, curl up in a comfy seat, and enjoy the rest of the hop!  Here's the link to the full list: http://lorianderson-beadsoupblogparty.blogspot.com/.  And thanks to Lori Anderson for coordinating this whole shebang -- this woman could conquer the world if she wanted to, she's just that organized.

Girl! You totally rocked your soup! That first necklace is so pretty. I'm with you, beadweaving is my comfort, so of course I love the second necklace. You did a great job on the flat spiral. The mismatched earrings are beautiful, even if I can't force myself to wear earrings that don't match! :) Have fun hopping!

I am SO sorry for being late — today our internet provider decided to crash. My stress level is through the roof, to say the least! They’re still working on it, but it’s like dial-up.

I'm really impressed! I don't work with filigree, either, but had some in my last bead soup and worked it out. Your seed bead work looks fabulous, too!

I hope you’ll participate again!

Love, Lori

Wow-these pieces are gorgeous! The necklace that you bead weaved is just stunning. Great earrings too-love the mismatch!

Cool! I love it when beadweavers string, because they have such a heightened sense of spatial relationships, know exactly how many beads it takes to complete a certain distance. Great Job - multi-strands are always a challenge. Love it!!

Alice Craddick said...

oh my, oh my, oh my. I love the beadweaving and the earrings are awesome. I want to take more time to look at the beadweaving. I know just how you feel as that is my comfort zone and that is not where I went with my pieces. I do have seed beads left so I may do something more to my liking.

It's so much fun to see all the beads before and then see the beauty that results. I love all the pieces you did and weaving is my favorite too. I would wear mismatched earrings any time. The pair I have on have two different patterns stamped into the metal even though they are symmetrical.

Recycled Cottage & Garden said...

Love the asymmetrical necklace, I've never done one yet. I've not done beadweaving either but love the look and it works so well with the big pendant. Now who would have thought of mismatched earrings, but they are just great.

Laura Twiford said...

Bobbie, I was gobsmacked by your work. The bsps piece is so lyrical. I love the multi-strands and the asymmetrical design ... which is not easy to pull off. But you nailed it. Your bead weaving is gorgeous. I bought Beverly Ash Gilbert's book and now I want to do bead weaving and your's just encourages me even more!

I want to follow your blog but I don't see a handy "followers" sign up spot.

fireflymyst said...

I love your creations! Your bead weaving is awesome! I wish I could do that!

Kathy ~ Artful Accents said...

The multi strands are well done. And the beadwork is amazing!

Claire Maunsell said...

That woven piece is something else! It's fantastic how you pulled those components together.

You used everything, too. Three lovely pieces, but the middle one takes my breath away...seed beads and I have a rocky personal history, but I love how they are used by someone who knows their power!

JuLee said...

I don't know which one I like better. I am enraptured by the woven cord you created. Totally awesome.

SueBeads said...

Fantastic! Love them!

Sandra said...

Oh. My. God. I don't have a front porch (or ANY porch at all), but I would have done a happy dance on my balcony had this bead soup been mine. NAKED. Green's my favorite, antique brass my other favorite. Someone send me a duplicate of that soup please, I'd KILL for it.

... nah, not really. But still, I WANT it. *grabby hands*

I love what you created with it, and I was somewhat amused to read you considered incorporating the CHAIN would be the challenge. As I do very rarely any jewelry WITHOUT chain. But I had to deal with beading wire and crimp beads in my soup, that was a first for me too!

I totally love on the necklace with the beadweaving too! It's just plain gorgeous. I have tons of seedbeads left from my loombeading times (so long ago) still. Maybe ... just maybe I should try to pick up some beading techniques like this to get rid of that old stash ... *ponders*

As a first timer you hit home runs!! Love the first necklace, great asymmetric design, I love the beadwork even more because I don't always have the patience for that kind of work but love how it looks. The neckwire weave is amazing! I am going to have to try that one.

I love the pieces you made. Your triple stand is gorgeous. Once I saw you were a bead weaver I couldn't wait to see the piece. I love the flat spiral chain you wove with the little cream beads highlighting each curve. The delicas (?) or hex beads that are the background for that pendant are a beautiful color and and finish. They really look like gemstones in the picture (I clicked to make it bigger some I could get a really good look).

Oh my, the necklace is fabulous with the green colors (one of my favorites) and the fabulous brass elements but I absolutely adored the flat spiral piece with your fabulous pendant. I love spiral and did it on my piece but I haven't tried flat spiral. What a wonderful stitch. And the earrings are just great as well - they go together even being different. Great Designs.

Bobbi, you are so talented, I love your pieces, the way you made the necklace with the chain the pearls and the filigree makes me believe the person who wears it is very regal...I also have much respect for all the bead-weaving in the second piece, wow, that is so cool...I have no talents in this area and someday would love to learn more about this art...lastly I was so happy to see your earrings, as I too made mis matched earrings that matched each other well and I love seeing this trend continued...just yummy
