Around here, you can tell it's spring when the stores bring out the Derby hat displays -- here's what I spotted while out shopping this weekend...
The photo's a little blurry because the salesladies always give me the stinkeye when I take pictures among the racks... |
I've entertained a fantasy of hosting a Triple Crown Bead Challenge (okay, so the name needs some work) -- jewelry inspired by the awesome art of millinery. I'd post some photos of fantastic, beautiful, and/or wacky hats that have been spotted at Derby, Ascot, or other famous races, and participants would choose one as an inspiration for a beady creation. It would be after the BSBP, probably with a reveal in May/June... What do you think?

Darn it, it would be difficult to resist. The reason why I do not engage in blog hops is the deadline. I do not finish my training until the beginning of June!
Sounds like a fabulous idea even if I am a party pooper. I still love to hop along.
that amethyst geode cuff was incredibly gorgeous! i'm in!!! i think it is a splendid (simply splendid) idea :-D
Sounds totally intriguing!
Hi Bobbie,
Those hat are all so pretty and the colors like a rainbow! I am in that sounds like a wonderful challenge.

Love the hats - one of my best friends is from Louisville originally - would love to see The Derby one day! I have only joined one blog hop this year - I have lost my muse for hops and I don't know why...perhaps just the mention of any deadline and I go running in the opposite direction. Last year was the complete opposite...I wish I knew why!
Sounds like fun! Sign me up. Already picturing a Derby inspired piece...
A Triple Crown Bead Challenge - that sounds like so much fun. I adore millinery - couture or crazy!
oh now that just sounds like fun. I'm so in on hat inspired jewelry!
I'm a little slow on the uptake (or is that out the gates?), but I love the idea of a millinery themed challenge. I always love your posts on Derby hats!
Oh and I thought of you several times this last week as I cleaned out my old studio and kept finding runaway beads from long ago. :)
