Time For Soup!

Aaah, soup! There's nothing quite as comforting or delicious. Or, if it's Bead Soup, more fun to make jewelry with...And when you have a partner who's incredibly generous, you can have a full smorgasbord of soup -- eleven courses, with leftovers!

** Giveaway alert (okay, blatant ploy for comments and followers) -- read all the way to the
bottom of this post, and you can find out how to get one of these courses for your very own!**

My lovely partner, Rita of Toltec Jewels, spoiled me rotten with gorgeous artisan beads and gemstones. Yes, I hit the jackpot, and I realize how lucky I am. Just to remind you, here is the soup I got.

Yes, I fell over in a full-on swoon.

Some pieces came together immediately, as I was opening the packages.  Others revealed themselves more slowly. But since I know you have another 499 blogs to look at as part of BSBP8, let's get to the goodies, shall we?

This, one, I must say, is my favorite of the bunch. Rita was great to include a cabochon, since she knows I do a lot of beadweaving. This beautiful cab from BeadFreaky was the perfect centerpiece, and I surrounded her with blue freshwater pearls, and an embellished herringbone rope of the twins, rollos, and brick beads Rita had sent.

The other piece that has some beadweaving in it also uses a focal with a dramatic backstory -- as Rita was wrapping this lovely lampwork cylinder from Maryse, the bead took a spectacular swan dive to Rita's floor and broke in half. Maryse made another in the same colorway and sent it directly from her shop in Europe (extra kisses to her!). There are all kinds of lovely shades of pink in the focal, and I tried to highlight them with the garnets in the tassel, the rose quartz and garnet in the spiral rope on the shorter strand, the beautiful freshwater pearls in the longer strand, and the truly lovely sterling/garnet two-strand clasp.

Back to the blue soup -- this time with a necklace that practically built itself as it came out of the package. The lovely ceramic nest focal from Blu Mudd was a natural match with the fantastic organic feeling ceramic blue/brown beads and leaf from Thea Elements. Added to that are blue flower buttons, blue Czech whirligigs (they remind me of the seed pods that are dropping like helicopters from the maple trees all over my neighborhood), a patinaed toggle clasp, and a cute little frog that hopped out of my stash, all on a macrame woven waxed linen cord.

Another pink necklace, this time with a focal that Rita ordered and sent as a backup for the broken Maryse focal. This one reminded me of a rosy sunset, and I was happy to pick up those colors with the extra fun purple Czech glass mushrooms that nestle together so beautifully, other pink Czech glass, a very special brass bird from Leslie Watt, and a clasp that Rita made herself with a lampwork bead from SueBeads. The asymmetry allowed me to show off all of the gorgeousness at once.

This piece of spring features another lampwork cylinder from Maryse, suspended on a lampwork leaf headpin. The necklace picks up the gorgeous spring shades of blue in the blue topaz, variegated quartz, and blue freshwater pearls, with pops from pewter discs and freshwater stick pearls.

And now for some glitz! Look at these spectacular, sparkletacular Slovakian glass faceted six-sided beauties! I paired them with garnet leaves, crystal, Czech glass, Swarovski elements bead caps, and a luxurious vermeil clasp with crystals. It truly is so sparkly, you may need to wear shades.  Here's a closeup of the clasp and the bead caps -- they are too pretty not to see clearly.

These beautiful freshwater pearls look like the deep blue I imagine the Aegean Sea to be.  What better beads to pair them with than the rich, lustrous 24k gold dipped Naas ceramics? The recycled sari silk was from my stash, where it had been waiting for a beautiful oceanic setting to come along.

More sari silk here, this time with a Czech glass, pewter discs, and a focal with crystal in pewter. Using fiber in my work is something I don't necessarily feel comfortable with, but I think this turned out pretty well.  I did give it a test wearing one day, so I can attest that it's very comfortable!

Another beautiful pendant with crystals, this time in a lovely blue that matched faceted bicones that Rita had included in her copious soup mix.  Ooh, elegant sparkle!

And finally, some earrings.  First, enameled rings with carved amethysts underneath.  Then, enameled flowers from Sue Beads, lampwork headpins from Southern Girl Designs, and Bali sterling beads.  I was a little worried about the patina on the headpin metal, but I kind of like the mix of rustic and shiny.

Phew! You made it! If you look back at the photos of the soup, you'll see that there's still plenty leftover for me to continue to work with.  I can't wait to get back into it...after I visit the other participants in the BSBP8 for abundant inspiration.  Thank you, Lori, for hosting this fabulous party, especially this year.  And thank you, thank you, thank you, Rita, for being such a fantastic partner and fun new friend!

Here's the payoff for reading this far -- if you leave a comment, you'll get a chance to win your choice of the two pairs of earrings from this challenge.  If you become a new follower of my blog AND leave me a comment, you'll get an additional chance to win.

Thanks for stopping by!  Here are the rest of the fabulous participants in the hop -- see you there!

I love your jewelry style, Bobbie. You've been as busy as your partner - georgeous! So many creations I would love to wear! Something I especially felt in love with: the necklace with the bird's nest, soooo charming!

You created great pieces with your wonderful soup. I absolutely love your first necklace with the face cabochon, but everything is just amazing.

Bobbie! You were busy! I love the asymmetrical necklaces. Especially the pink one with the offset clasp. Great way to show off that stunning clasp.

Wow!

You didn't get a soup, you got an ocean! You went swimming in that ocean and created some amazing treasures. I can't pick one, they are all amazing.

Such lovely work well done!

Oh my, such a lot to comment on. I love that pink replacement focal- I think that is the one that will stay in my memory.

The blue and gold is lustrous- oh so very rich.

I am with you on your favorite. I love the strap (? really is that what you call it?) I always struggle after I make the focal to design a rope or strap or something that is fitting.

You played your lottery winnings well.

so many different techniques!I love these pieces with fabric!!

Wow everyone is so gorgeous, you have outdone yourself and probably the rest of us. I love the first necklace with the face, just stunning. But saying that if you put each piece in front of me I wouldn't be able to pick a favorite. Such incredible talent rolled up in one sweet person.

CraftyHope said...

That's two awesome soups you received and boy did you make them shine or WHAT!? You started off the whole thing with a bang with that beautiful, calming, serene face necklace. But, I do have to admit that I really, really love the nest necklace. The colors and simplicity of it are perfect for my usual, everyday style. All of your pieces though are perfectly balanced and so well thought out. Fabulous, all of it!

I was drooling over what you did with the cab, but when I got to the bird's nest I fell in looooooooove.

Bobbie it is hard to pick a favorite with so many absolutely gorgeous designs. You really did this soup justice. I would say the first pink lampworked focal with the spiral rope is my favorite. It is very generous of you to giveaway a pair of earrings. I am a new follower too.

Wow, you did hit the jackpot :) I like what you did with the cabochon and I love the bracelet with the purple sari silk! These two stood out to me from the myriad of pieces you made!

You really hit the jackpot.. but you deserved those pretties cause you are gifted, able yo create such amazing jewelries.. my favorite is the awesomely pretty birdnest neclace. I start following your blog.. not because you"re giving give away goodies, but your blog and your creations are really intetesting. Well done Bobbie.

Lucky girl! Such marvy ingredients and you made such beautiful pieces. I couldn't pick a favorite if I tried.

Thanks for joining and posting!

Bobbi, you did an amazing job!! I love your use of the silks and other parts of the soup, but you know me, I love the blue face...that is beautifully beadwoven!! AND, the strap was a great choice!! WONDERFUL!! ~KM

WOW ! Beadweaving blows my mind. I have no idea how anyone can ever do that. I would pull my hair out ! So you have all my respect and admiration. All your pieces are show stoppers, but I think I like the nest necklace the best !

(PS - my ears arn't pierced, so please pick someone else if you end up pulling me for the earrings <3)

How did you manage to produce so many wonderful pieces?!?!
I am drooling over the kumihimo necklace, the threadwork together with ceramic beads is just amazing.

Toltec Jewels for Jewel School Friends said...

Oh Bobbie! You are an artist extraordinaire! I'm so in love with everything you created, I've visited your page again & again just to take in the beauty.

I hope you don't mind a wordy response, but each piece inspires & moves me so, I'd like to respond to each individually :)

Your embellished Herringbone rope is spectacular! It's sublime. The colorway you created is expressive and your beadwork is phenomenal. The pattern of beads, the clasp you created, the magical focal and the pearls all come together in harmony, in grace. Simply stunning!

It must be destiny that Maryse's lampwork simply had to be replaced because it was meant to be your art bead! I may have knocked it out of my hand; you knocked it out of the park! Wow. Imaginative, brilliant, beautiful. Elegant! The tassel of rich garnet jewels, the garnet & rose quartz beaded spiral, and the pearls perfectly celebrate the lampwork treasure and tell the story of a master at her craft. Breath-taking!

And, jumping back into blue, now we get treated to macrame?!! I love this journey! First off, I noticed the way you used the wax linen with the focal -- like wire wrapping a briolette! Ingenious. And the natural material of your technique here completely reflects the energy of the beads, styled brilliantly. The falling leaf, the fun leaping frog (Hi froggy! :) the turning seed pod helicopters, the turning macrame, the flower blossoms, the gentle blues of the sweet little linen closure beads -- and the blues of the clasp and ceramics and focal -- are like sky through the trees, a gentle breeze, a walk in the woods - peaceful, nurturing, full of breath and life. Beads brought to life! Jewelry art to savor and cherish!

And the sweet sunset bead! You've made me fall in love with that focal. In person, the necklace must sparkle! I think of the twinkling rays of sun at sunset, a bird curving through sky, the wonderful feeling of a warm summer day coming to a close. And your special touches -- the crystals nestled within the lavender mushroom beads, the mix of iridescent beads & crystals, the focal placed on the side -- offer a blissful, happy path for the eye. A beautiful composition; dreamy design.

And there's MORE! lol!
You are amazing!

I love how you paired Southern Gal's leaf lampwork & maryse's blue focal with the blue haze fire agate! It's soft, pretty, simple yet eloquent. A necklace I'd wear often!

Then, bam! One of my most favorites: the garnet leaves & crystal necklace. It's splendid! I LOVE it. The balance, the composition, the colors -- SENSATIONAL! A star! It should be on tv :)

And then another: Shazamm! I LOVE the blue & gold necklace also. Striking, brilliant, another star! Bravo!

And then, a Jen Cameron lampwork & crystal filigree bracelet! You made the fiber fabulous. It looks great! This must have been wonderful to wear. A lovely, delightful treasure!

The Swarovski crystal and blue filigree ensemble takes my breath away! I adore this set! It's just so smart and sophisticated -- sexy, and perfectly glamorous -- another favorite!

I am so excited and impressed and moved by your incredible work. You are a gifted, gifted artist! How honored I am to be your partner and what happiness I've have seeing your creations! Amazing range of techniques & styles & motifs!

As for the earrings -- awesome! The Southern Gals lampwork headpin earrings with Sue Beads enameled bead caps are adorable, and I love the various metals. Way cool! And the pair with Get Your Bead On enameled discs & amethyst flowers are so pretty! I love the silver chain holding the discs, and your perfect wire work in both pair. Lovely giveaway just like you! Generous & classy & kind & fun!

Mwhaaa!! Muchas Gracias my dear friend, with hugs --
Rita

I don't know what to say, your necklace designs so so...
I love them cause sometime beadweaving not always to be so details.

darn! don't know where to start ;-) gorgeous, gorgeous pieces! I'm particularly drawn to the deep blue pearl, sari and ceramic spikes necklace

The more I was scrolling down the page, the more I realized how difficult it will be to single out just one or even two of your designs. Your talent is the unique spice to the gorgeous soup. But I was really impressed by the seemingly simple deep blue freshwater pearl necklace - sometimes it's all about color :)

Beautiful and detailed designs! They are all wonderful. I am really drawn to the macrame one -- exquisitely organic!

Wow! You and your partner just went berserkers with your soups! Gorgeous! And the number of pieces you got from those soups! Beautiful work! Just beautiful. I had to go back through the blog 3 times before I could narrow it down to one favorite. That would be the blue pearls with the gold "bars". All are fantastic, but something about the colors, or the combination just sings to me.

You are one lucky lady with both bead soups! That is a lot to choose from, and you did a marvelous job with all of it. I kept scrolling down to ooh and ahh. The glass bead on your second necklace is stunning & the accompanying beads go perfectly. Beautiful, every piece and pair of earrings.

I love the cab face necklace, but the macrame one is my personal fave :)

Rita is a very generous person. You are very lucky to have her as a partner. I really like your bird nest necklace with the waxed linen and the ceramic art beads. I like the way you balanced the lampwork glass, and the bronze bird on either side of the mauve necklace. I have to say, that I use fiber in everything, but I never thought of braiding the sari silk before. I absolutely love the effect. Nice job on trying something new. Those ruby colored earrings with the little florets are adorable. Commenting and following your blog to increase my odds of winning them ;)

Oh what beautiful bead weaving! Gorgeously captured little face. Looks just perfect nestled amongst those tiny little seed beads. My favourite though is your wonderful birds nest necklace. The micro macrame with interspersed beads is just gorgeous. And yep, I'm a new follower!

Rita definitely spoiled you! I especially was curious to see how you used the set of pink and goldstone barrels she purchased from me specifically for your pink soup. The bracelet is gorgeous (although I think you referred to them as Czech glass? They are definitely made in the USA ;-) Here is the original photo from the listing: http://www.glassaddictions.com/gallery/image/pink-and-goldstone-barrel-bead-set-4-jen-cameron

I shared the bracelet on my Facebook page. It's so elegant! You made some lovely pieces!

You are as prolific as your bead soup partner. What a couple of fun blogs! Eye candy!! I am with you on your favorite. That first necklace looks like all those beads were born to be together, and your bead weaving/stitching is lovely. Then (although I love everything) I love those big sparktackular glass beads. Wowee. Then my socks were blown off by the blue pearls with the gold and blue ribbon. LOVE it.

Dear Bobbie, you have created magic with the 2 wonderful soups sent by Rita. Every piece is stunning but my fave is the Aegean blue one but i wouldn't say no to any of your creations. You were blessed to have Rita as a partner and now friend. She was my partner last year and a better introduction to the jewelry blogosphere I couldn't have had. And so generous! A day doesn't go by without be finding something in my stash from her. you work is wonderful and you should feel very proud of this reveal!!!!

You had such a giant soup, I would have been overwhelmed. You certainly did it justice though. It's very hard to pick a favorite but I think your piece with the sari silk and the pink sparkling focal is mine.
