Pantone Persuasion

When Pantone announced its color(s) of the year for 2016, I'll admit I had a moment of "huh?"

Soft pink and baby blue? I was not thrilled (as though the folks at the Pantone Institute had been holding their collective breath until I decided whether or not I approve).  Then I read this:

Lee_Eisemann Pantone Color of the Year 2016 ROSE QUARTZ & SERENITY

"Huh" turned into "Hmm.."  So the other day, while excavating the piles of beads in the workroom poking around in my bead stash, I found some lovely Czech lentils in rose quartz, and decided to play with them. A tube of Serenity colored seed beads, some soft pink druks, and a while later, this turned out.

The colors are tricky for me, or at least my photographic skills, to capture perfectly.

Here's a close up, showing a little more detail of the flat spiral.

These aren't going to be my primary go-to hues, I don't think. But they're nice and calm and spring-like, and who can't use as much warmth and calm as we can find?

And how about you? What do you think of Pantone's choice this year?

Yep, These Colors Will Show Up In Some Jewelry Soon

While at a holiday concert yesterday, I couldn't help myself -- I had to take a picture of the spectacular stained glass window serving as a backdrop for the performance.

What gorgeous colors, and what a fantastic combination of shades and hues!  And this was taken fairly late in the afternoon.  Imagine what it looks like with full sun shining through!  I'm not sure if it'll work, but try clicking on the picture to see if you can see a larger version.

These colors will be an inspiration for a beaded piece (or six) in the near future.

How Do We Celebrate the End of The Fall Show Season?

By entering a blog challenge, of course!!

I'll be taking part of the Challenge of Color, revealed on November 30.  Read more about it here and here.

Woo hoo - one more show this weekend, then I can hole up in my bead room and create something for this hop.  Will you be hopping, too?

One Crayon Challenge - The Reveal!

Sally Russick, the fabulous lady from the Studio Sublime is hosting the One Crayon Challenge - the idea is that each participant chooses a color from the original Crayola box and creates a piece with ONLY the shades and hues of that color.

I chose red, mainly because I'd just gotten this fabulous red lampwork disc and wanted to do something to feature it.

And as if working within one color wasn't challenge enough, I decided only to use things in my stash.  That's right, friends, no shopping after choosing the color.  (Insert horrified scream of disbelief here)

I wanted to echo the swirl of the focal disc in the rest of the piece.  So here, in honor of both the challenge, and because the Kentucky Derby is happening about three miles from my house today, here is The Run For The Roses:

Thanks for looking!  Go check out the others who've been playing with crayons:

Is That Cake?

If you're looking for the Challenge of Color reveal and giveaway, go here

Why, yes, yes it is cake!  Or it was.

My birthday was yesterday, and the people in my office were sweet enough to bring cake.

Yellow cake with caramel icing so good it makes you want to dance, weep for joy, and pledge to live in elastic waistbanded pants for the rest of your life in order to accommodate your ever-widening hips.  I will drive many miles to get this cake.

In fact, I made myself throw away the fork so I would stop eating it.

Not really a beady post, but I suspect that some of you might understand ;-)  The bakery ships if you're interested...I swear I don't own stock in the place!

So, what sweet plans are on tap for your weekend?

Challenge of Color Blog Hop (And A Giveaway!)

Welcome to the second Challenge of Color Blog Hop, created by our talented ringmaster Erin of Tesori Trovati Jewelry.

Here's the basic scoop: each participant chose a color from a selection of twelve.  We were then assigned a palette based around that color, designed by the uber-talented Jessica Colaluca of Design Seeds.  I chose teal, and was a little surprised when the name of my assigned palette was "Lime Hues."  But as you see above, it is built around the lovely mild teal.

Now honestly, the wisdom of signing up for a challenge whose reveal date was between Thanksgiving and Christmas, situated on top of two art shows and smack dab in the middle of one of the real crunch times at my job shows an unusual tolerance for mad activity.  I had grand visions of creating a spectacular woven piece that would do justice to the luscious colors I'd been gifted with.

(Keep reading until after the pictures for information on the giveaway!)

In reality, I ended up doing some weaving and some stringing.  Here's what came off the work table right under the deadline!

First the necklace, for which I created three separate woven rings with combinations of different colors and materials.  The finished necklace is nice and long (about 30"), with the rings on a double strand of copper chain.

faceted Czech glass beads are a lovely teal with a hint of the lime chartreuse

a variety of seed beads

marble beads with seeds in the green, blue, and chartreuse shades

(like it was when I uploaded it...)

The earrings:

And the bracelet:

featuring a great ceramic button I picked up at a July 4 art fair by a NC artist --
she didn't have a website, but I'll have to go dig out her card and put her name here later

Thanks to Erin for coordinating all of this, thanks to Jessica for allowing us to use her palettes as inspiration, and thanks to you for looking!  And now for the giveaway:  leave a comment here, and you'll be entered in a drawing for one of the pieces I created for this hop -- that's right, three winners!  If you tweet, facebook, or blog about this post, you'll get another entry for each posting.  Just think - three gifts within your grasp (okay, keep it for yourself.  I won't tell!)

Here are the other participants in the hop -- I'll be enjoying all the beautiful creations, too!
